DESCRIPTION:  This is a large, beautifully prepared and gorgeous fossil of the Jurassic era crustacean Aeger spinipes, preserved within the world-famous Solnhofen limestone of Eichstatt, Germany.

This complete and exquisitely prepared specimen of Aeger spinipes is well-centered in the upper third of a  nice slab of Solnhofen limestone, with the rostrum, carapace, abdomen and uropod exceedingly well-preserved and intricately derived, as are the legs, with the delicate fimbria of the more anteriorly situated swimming legs elegantly depicted, and with many of the remaining legs well-defined.  Five(!) antennae arise from the rostrum, with four arcing gracefully in front of the shrimp, and with one longer antenna extending much of the width of the slab to the inferiormost slab margin.  One well-repaired fine crack extends the length of the slab and passes through all of the antenna.  A smaller well-repaired crack is noted in the upper left corner of the limestone slab.  Dendrites are distributed along the upper margin and a portion of the right edge of the slab. The artistry of the artist, just as with a fine piece of art, defines the artwork’s value. This is also true for the artistry of the fossil preparator, which is remarkable in this specimen.  This is a superb, amazingly well-prepared example of a very well-preserved, large and beautiful Solnhofen shrimp at a reasonable price.
