GEOLOGICAL AGE: Upper Jurassic
(150 million years old)

STRATIGRAPHIC FORMATION: Solnhofen Plattenkalk (limestone)

LOCATION: Eichstatt, Bavaria, Germany

DESCRIPTION:  This is an absolutely enormous, beautifully prepared and complete fossil of the Jurassic era crustacean Antrimpos speciosus, preserved within the world-famous Solnhofen limestone of Eichstatt, Germany.

This massive and exquisitely prepared specimen of Antrimpos speciosus is centered and is somewhat to the right of midline of an enormous slab of Solnhofen limestone.  The rostrum, carapace, abdomen and uropod quite well-preserved and derived, as are many of the legs.  The chelicerae (mouthparts) are  exceedingly well-prepared and are quite prominent. A number of the remaining legs are very well-defined and derived.  One antenna is draped over the carapace and extends back to the proximal abdomen, while a longer antenna flows downwards and backwards in front of and then trailing behind the shrimp fossil. The huge limestone slab is uniformly beige with the exception of the superior and portion of the right margin, which exhibit some orange-brown staining.  One well-repaired fine crack extends from the superior margin of the slab to approach the proximal portion of the abdomen superiorly, while another well-repaired crack with associated orange-brown staining extends superiorly from the inferior slab margin to approach the outer curve of the mid-abdomen.  The slab is otherwise without defect.  This is a well-prepared example of a very nicely preserved, large and attractive Solnhofen shrimp offered at a reasonable price.
